Manuscript translation of a contemporary copy of a narrative written by Jesuit priest Father Gabriel Druillettes while representing Canada in negotiations for a colonial union in Boston and Plymouth, Mass., 1650-51. Druillettes describes (in diary-like form) traveling from Canada to Boston and Plymouth to negotiate for a colonial union and for protection against the Iroquois. Manuscript translation provided by historian John Gilmary Shea, ca. 1855. In 1855, the original narrative was housed at the Land Office of Canada; current location unknown.

John Dawson Gilmary Shea was born in 1824 in New York City. He attended law school before joining the Society of Jesus in 1848. He then studied at St. John's College (Fordham, NY) and St. Mary's College (Montreal, Canada). Shea left the order in 1852 to pursue a career as a historian. He married Sophie Savage in 1854.
